You do not need to install everything. Start with a Korean map, a translator, and a visitor-friendly taxi app, then add booking or messaging tools that match your itinerary.

1. NAVER Map: the first app to install

The app supports English as well as Korean, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese. Not every place name or review will be fully translated, so search can work better when you paste the Korean name or address.

NAVER Papago translates Korean and multiple other languages. Its text, voice, conversation, and image tools are useful for restaurant menus, signs, product labels, ticket machines, and short conversations.

k.ride is designed for international visitors using Kakao Mobility’s taxi network. It supports English, Japanese, and Chinese interfaces and allows destination search and translated communication with drivers. Current availability and payment support depend on your country, card, and app version.
Enter the exact pickup point rather than only the building name. Large stations, malls, and airports have multiple entrances, and the driver may be unable to stop where you are standing.
- Check the license plate before entering.
- Confirm whether payment is in the app or directly to the driver.
- Use an official taxi stand when app pickup is restricted.
- Keep your destination written in Korean as a backup.
4. KorailTalk: intercity trains
KorailTalk is the official Korail app for checking and booking many KTX and conventional train services. It is helpful for trips such as Seoul to Busan, Gyeongju, Jeonju, or other cities served by Korail.
Station names matter. Seoul Station, Yongsan Station, Cheongnyangni Station, and Suseo Station serve different routes and operators. SRT trains use separate booking services, so do not assume every high-speed train appears in KorailTalk.
